Carlos Atoche

Carlos Atoche, was born in 1984 in Lima, Perù, from Argentinian and Peruvian parents. He begins experimenting with sculpture and painting in his childhood, under the encouraging influence of his father, a sculptor himself.
In his teens, he leaves Latin America and starts traveling the world, living in Berlin and Rome, where he graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts. Very soon in his career, he realizes his need to express himself on larger and larger canvases, both in terms of space as well as meaning. Painting in the street completely changes his perception of art and space, painter and public, that become intrinsically tied together in a relationship that takes center stage in his street art.

Street art

Renaissance masters and ancient cultures

Carlos Atoche is naturally drawn to Renaissance Masters, as well as Latin and Hellenic culture.
Atoche explores history, its costumes, expressions and figures, but his eyes are always looking at the world as it is today. His use of the past is not about re-interpreting old imagery, it is the manifestation of mankind’s relation with history.

Classical art, his native country with its rich historical imagery, as well as his extensive travels all appear on his walls and canvases, giving birth to a unique and immediate aesthetic that makes him a celebrated artist worldwide.

Linocuts

The characters inhabiting his work are further and more intimately investigated in his engravings. The artist takes part in several engravings fairs and exhibitions in Canada, France, Portugal and Italy, and his series Sognatori di Notte has been exhibited as far as China.
In these artworks the artist’s profound spiritual perspective comes out, as he guides us through the past, like a shaman or a priest, disclosing a secretive world where our own creative self can run free.
Through this series of Veneri (Venuses) Atoche wanted to express feminine power, its resilience and ability to overcome challenges. Through centuries, each Venus has re-conquered the rights and the spaces previously denied, and has fought to break free from the rules of a patriarchal society to find a long lost inner balance.
