DARIO VELLA was born in Piombino in 1979, he began his artistic career in the nineties by using the spray can. He was passionate about writing, graphics and street art, and invited to many conventions and gatherings to paint large mural works: in the underpass of via Massetana in Follonica in 2016, in the Tharas and Vatl exhibition for the Museum of Vetulonia in 2021 and in 2023 at the Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome. In 2019, 2020, 2022 he made live paintings for the Upaint street festival in Montecarlo. He works in Nice, Montecarlo, Dubai, always maintaining strong roots in Italy, his homeland, where he realizes various exhibitions and interventions including in 2022 for the Book Fair in Turin and in 2015 at the Italian Pavilion for the Expo from Milan.
“Art is my life and we must all contribute to protecting the environment” – says Dario Vella. In fact, the works often have the animal kingdom as the protagonist, considered the true guiding spirit of the human soul. The artist has an admiration on tigers, strong and fragile animals at the same time, and he gives birth to a series of “Portraits”, a metaphor of human passion which, if not nourished, ends up tearing you apart just like a hungry animal.
In the “Bad Attitudes” series, the artist criticizes contemporary society, with the need to sensitize public opinion and denounce the automatism of human behavior that most damages the world, the extinguished cigarette lightly thrown on the ground becomes symbol in his latest works of an uncivilized society, which does not think about the future. It always tries to stimulate a collective conscience, addresses current issues such as femicide, donating a red bench, installed in via Roma in Follonica, during the day to raise awareness of violence against women.
Vella’s art tells the contemporary, undergoing beneficial influences from the great figurative masters of the past, Surrealists, Pop art, while keeping a constant update on the materials and techniques of the present. His artistic production develops on the most varied supports and with the most disparate techniques: sprays, rollers or quartz paints, various recycled materials, never placing limits on his wide versatility and seeking continuous innovations.
